The Melt Room is a new, short-order, grilled cheese sandwich shop, poised to reignite London’s love of this comfort food favourite, as it launches in Soho this May. Bringing a taste of the New York- style cheese-stuffed sandwich to London, Melt Room will offer a menu of innovative fillings using quality locally-sourced ingredients, served alongside healthy juices and beverages all day, every day.
Founder and grilled cheese aficionado Andrey Datsenko, says: “I spent the better part of my youth studying hospitality management in New York and very quickly became addicted to the delicious and hearty grilled cheese sandwiches the city had to offer. I am very excited to launch Melt Room, not only to fix my own grilled cheese cravings, but to offer Londoners a gourmet American-inspired version of this much loved snack.”
Championing the best of British farmhouse and artisan cheese, and using a hot brick method for cooking and pressing the sandwich, the menu includes
The Classic – the holiest of grilled cheese sandwiches made with Keens sharp cheddar double slices, Slow & low lamb shoulder with mustard dressed greens and melted Swiss, and Rare roast beef coupled with Sparkenhoe red Leicestershire.
All combinations are served between hand-made, organic, sourdough bread from London’s local Wapping bakery and use free-range Native Breeds meat from Gloucestershire. Melt Room’s “Hero” grilled cheese sandwich specials display more creative pairings, whilst “on the side” additions such as crisp pickles, relish, cheese-friendly sauces and goat’s cheese popcorn will be available to heighten the experience.
Lighter options including a Tuna bean salad with melted mozzarella and the Green Goddess with quark provide an alternative for those seeking a less indulgent bite, whilst seasonal rotations will include soups and salads. The breakfast menu also has license to thrill, with Benedict Melt served with a vintage cheddar hollandaise sauce, a Highland bagel with Philly cream cheese and London-cured smoked salmon, a Super Veggie option, as well as the
signature Full English grilled cheese sandwich.
