CORE Bar is perfectly situated close to both Bank and Mansion House tube making it a haven for city workers looking for somewhere to relax after a hard day at the office. It consists of two floors that exudes an abandoned warehouse feel, which wouldn’t be out of place in the bars of Shoreditch. All the furniture is mismatched throughout and brightly coloured bringing something different to the traditional city pub/bar furnishings.

We popped down mid-week to explore the drinks and food on offer. After being ID’d by the bouncers on the door (it’s been a long time since that’s happened) we entered the dimly lit bar, reading menus by candlelight. We were seated upstairs and presented with the cleverly displayed menu. Each page is stuck into any empty book leaving the rest of the pages up for grabs for the punters who drink there so feel free to leave your mark!

There’s an extensive list of cocktails, with all the traditional drinks given an added twist ‘CORE’ style. We started with two of their trademark cocktails, Moroccan Julep and Fizzazzle. Both were refreshing and went down a treat, you can see the city boys getting very comfortable working their way through the menu on a Thursday or Friday night.

CORE Bar Burger

The evening menu is definitely aimed to line the stomach and we tried the Blue and Lamb Burger. The meat was tender and sandwiched between soft brioche buns, the only way a burger should be served. Each burger is accompanied with chips, which weren’t the best we’ve ever had but filled a hole. Food isn’t their main attraction, this is more a bonus on top of the drinks, music and atmosphere which entice the crowds in.

After sampling a few of the alternative cocktails (would recommend the A&M Cosmo, cosmopolitan mixed with apple and mint) it was time to call it a night. Downstairs was quiet on a Wednesday but would be a great venue for a weekend party to have some food then dance the night away. Surrounded by the traditional city pub or upmarket bar, CORE sits perfectly in the middle as a fun and reasonably priced place to have a drink and unwind with work colleagues.
