We love living in East London but know that the rest of the city has so much to offer. However, with such busy schedules we are victims of our own laziness sometimes, as when it comes to time off, we rarely seek an hour commute to the other side of town. For that reason, it’s why we were yet to have sampled the brilliant Petersham Nurseries, located in Richmond.
However, our good friends at The Lucky Onion were nice enough to invite us to another one of their superb supper clubs at their No.38 hotel in Cheltenham, hosted by none other than, Petersham Nurseries. What this meant was a night of fine dining from head chef Damian Clisby, with a menu inspired by what is growing in the Petersham gardens, the changing seasons, and our connection to the environment. In short, we were in for a night of fine dining with a large focus on edible flowers and plants.
Long banqueting tables had been dressed and adorned with multiple flowers and foliage and diners were encouraged to simply pick and choose different petals to add to their dishes, like the beautiful crispy-skinned Roast Lamb or to simply snack on if you got peckish between courses.
It really was quite the flavour experience with rose petals, lemon thyme and other beauties that were more commonly found in your Mum’s flower beds! The great thing about such an unusual dinner is that it encouraged communication as you felt like you were heading into the unknown with all your fellow diners. Young and old came together and discussed every mouthful with intrigue, excitement and a small helping of caution too!
Just as before, The Lucky Onion had sourced a superb chef and concept in the form of Damian Clisby and Petersham Nurseries and also created a fine night of dining with great company, wine and merriment. It was a huge success and we can’t wait to sample the next!
Also, the other great thing about a supper club being hosted in a beautiful hotel, such as No.38 The Park is that you simply say goodnight and climb the stairs to a fantastic room like this one! Just look at that bath! The perfect city retreat if you ask us.
