LIMA comes to Harrods

Lima Peruvian delicatessen Harrods

Some of the most internationally acclaimed chefs have found their home at Harrods, the world’s most famous department store. The latest duo to join this exclusive club is Virgilio Martinez and Robert Ortiz from Lima Restaurant, the first Peruvian restaurant to receive Michelin star, and rightly so as it continues to take the London dining scene by storm.

On arrival we were greeted with a Pisco Sour, Peru’s most famous cocktail and one of our favourites. This is a fantastic aperitif made of Pisco, Lime, Sugar Syrup, Egg White and Bitters and the perfect introduction to an evening celebrating Peruvian cuisine.

We were delighted to meet Gabriel & José-Luis Gonzalez, and Head Chef Virgilio Martinez in the iconic Harrods Georgian Conservatory restaurant and learn about their journey so far.

LIMA is a representation of the gastronomic expansion that has taken place in Peru during the last few years, with the idea of showcasing Lima to London, as the gastronomic capital of the Americas.
Set up by the Gonzalez brothers and Virgilio, the team now have restaurants in Fitzrovia, Covent Garden, Harrods and one opening in Dubai soon.

Throughout the night we were served with canapes that gave an insight into the dishes served up at Lima, with highlights including:

· A Sea Bass starter with Avocado, Yellow Tiger’s Milk and Cancha Corn. A fresh and light dish with added texture from the Cancha Corn.

· The Signature Starter of Lomo Steak Huancaina. Made from Beef Loin with Yellow Ají Sauce and Coriander Cress, that made us swoon as it hit the palate before melting in your mouth.

· A main dish of Beef Pachamancha – Yellow Potato Purée, with Cow´s Milk and Ají Panca Juice, which simply tasted as beautiful as it looked.

· Finally the side of Artichoke Amazonia which consisted of Red Potato, Avocado, Passion Fruit, Artichoke and Crazy Pea.

Lima and their head chef really do conjure up some magical dishes of fantastic South American flavours and the new delicatessen is a perfect way to experience the lot.
