The Lowndes Hotel Bar and Kitchen in Belgravia has partnered with neighbourhood bookstore Belgravia Books to launch Book & Brunch club Sundays. We were invited to feed our minds and our tummies in one Sunday morning swoop in the form of a two-course brunch, bubbles and a specially selected book to thumb through while we worked our way through our eggs.
Go hungry, because the menu is more filling than you might expect. First up, choose between a fresh fruit platter, maple syrup granola with yoghurt, or blueberry porridge (which our guest, a daily porridge-eater, said was the best she’d had in a long time). Next: the main event. Eggs. Loads of eggs. Eggs Benedict (and all the classic variations), eggs and avo, eggs with chorizo (in the form of a frittata) and eggs with salmon rolled up in a pancake. Or, if you’re feeling sweet, there are tempting pancakes and brioche french toast. Take your pick while the incredibly hospitable staff top up your bottomless prosecco.
Book or no book, it’s a decent brunch offering in the heart of Belgravia. The book and brunch concept is a great idea and it would be fun to have someone from Belgravia Books pop along to read an excerpt and talk about its background in true book club style. Then again, some brunchers prefer to be left to their own devices.
